The Marquette Climate Adaptation Task Force initiates a plan of action to combat the effects of climate change.

The Marquette Climate Adaptation Task Force (CATF) has initiated a new program to combat climate change. In the Marquette 2049 Learning Circles Series, the CATF held a kickoff presentation at Northern Michigan University’s Northern Center on Friday afternoon. The aim of this program is to discuss the potential impact of climate change on the city and county over the next 25 years.

Tyler Penrod, the Marquette County Climate Adaptation Task Force Coordinator, highlighted how climate change has already affected our lives through this year’s mild winter. He pointed out that springtime temperatures in early February and late January have impacted cultural events such as sled dog races and ski races. Penrod emphasized that looking ahead, even greater consequences can be expected, including impacts on housing, demand for natural resources, and changes in weather and climate patterns.

Penrod expressed the hope that by bringing people together, they can collectively find multiple solutions to address climate change problems before they become more severe.
