Carbice and RTX’s Blue Canyon Technologies join forces to propel advancements in aerospace technology and promote sustainability.

Carbice Corporation has announced a collaboration with Blue Canyon Technologies, Inc. to provide aligned carbon nanotechnology (CNT) solutions for critical spacecraft programs. Blue Canyon Technologies is a leading provider of small satellite solutions. This collaboration ensures that Carbice’s aligned CNT material, Carbice Space Pad™, will be integrated into almost all satellite solutions from Blue Canyon Technologies, including the MethaneSAT satellite.

Carbice Space Pad is a thermal solution that offers high-power dissipation performance and ease of use. It eliminates the need for traditional thermal interface materials (TIMs) that can cause damage and delays during assembly integration and testing. By reducing scraps and offering longer-term performance in orbit, Carbice Space Pad is a more sustainable TIM. The material is also the first fully predictable interface solution, thanks to Carbice’s digital tool, Carbice SIM.

Jennifer Cech Young, Director of Thermal Systems Engineering at Blue Canyon Technologies, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating that Carbice’s aligned CNTs are the most reliable advanced material for managing thermal systems. Aligned carbon nanotubes have recently been recognized as a “technology of special interest” by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Dr. Baratunde Cola, Carbice CEO and Founder, highlighted the collaboration as an opportunity for both companies to continue innovating and building stronger spacecraft solutions. Carbice operates the world’s largest aligned carbon nanotube facility and offers a range of thermal interface solutions for various applications.
