King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and ACWA Power Company have joined forces to establish a collaborative “Clean Energy and Water Desalination Technologies Development Center.” This partnership represents a significant step forward in promoting clean energy and sustainable water desalination.
The agreement, signed by KACST Vice President Dr. Saeed Al-Shehri and ACWA Power’s Thomas Altmann, envisions the center as a hub for scientific research and technical development in key areas such as solar energy technologies, energy storage, and innovative materials for desalination membranes.
One of the main objectives of this initiative is to reduce costs and emissions in desalination processes through the utilization of artificial intelligence and advanced digital technologies. By embracing these cutting-edge tools, the collaboration aims to enhance ACWA Power’s role in national laboratories and foster a culture of cooperation and innovation. Additionally, the partnership seeks to transfer state-of-the-art water desalination technology to various industrial sectors.
Dr. Saeed emphasized the center’s role in aligning technical products with the needs of both the public and private sectors, thereby contributing to national aspirations in research, development, and innovation.
Thomas Altmann expressed excitement about the collaboration, highlighting its goal to develop market-ready solutions and address commercial needs with agility and innovation. By doing so, the partnership aims to contribute to the local research and innovation ecosystem in line with Vision 2030 objectives.
This collaboration between KACST and ACWA Power represents a significant milestone in advancing clean energy and sustainable water desalination. Through the establishment of the “Clean Energy and Water Desalination Technologies Development Center,” both organizations are working towards creating a more sustainable future.
