Inyanga is planning to implement a tidal power development project on a secluded island in the Philippines.

Energies PH, through its affiliate San Bernardino Ocean Power Corp., has awarded a contract to Inyanga Marine Energy Group to construct a 1-MW tidal power generation plant on Capul Island in the Philippines. The project site, located along the San Bernardino Strait, is known for its strong marine currents.

Inyanga Marine Energy Group will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the facility. The plant will utilize Inyanga’s HydroWing tidal stream technology and is expected to be operational by late 2025.

The HydroWing turbines will be integrated into the electrical network of Capul Island, which currently relies on a 750-kW diesel power plant for its energy needs. This 1-MW tidal array, serving as the project’s initial phase, will be connected to a microgrid network that includes solar photovoltaic energy and energy storage.

Additionally, San Bernardino has plans to develop tidal power generation projects on San Antonio Island in Northern Samar and Calintaan Island in Matnog, Sorsogon.

The project is set to commence on February 2, 2024.
